How to Grow Okra Plants – A Step-By-Step Guide

Growing an okra plant is easy. Do you know okra is a good source of calcium, protein, and magnesium, and is said to improve eyesight?

To grow an okra plant, simply follow the steps below. It is essential that you follow each step as it will have a great impact on the outcome.

1. Seeds

The first thing you need when growing an okra plant is a vegetable seeds supplier. An established seed supplier that offers quality seeds will be ideal as you need quality seeds that are meant to grow in a tropical environment.

This way you will be able to make the most of your efforts. One of the best things about okra plants is that you can start growing them in a small home garden and gradually expand.

They do not take a great deal of space, so you can experiment before putting all your eggs in one basket.

Once you have the seeds, (some seed producers and merchants provide online order and delivery services), you can proceed to the following steps.

2. Spot

It is essential that you pick the perfect spot, as each plant is different in nature and requires a specific amount of sunlight.

For an okra plant, you must pick the sunniest spot in your garden as the plant grows beautifully under the hot sun, and won’t offer the same results when planted in a shady spot.

You need to ensure that your okara plan has at least 6 hours of sunlight each day. It doesn’t matter how hot the temperature is because okra plants can take the heat.

This makes them a great pick for a hot and tropical environment. If you have any questions, contact your online vegetable seeds supplier and they will be able to help you out with their expertise.

This is because they know the seeds they are offering and understand the best way to achieve a quality outcome.

3. Soil

Once you have chosen the perfect spot, you must check your soil’s pH.

Note that the okra plant grows well when the pH level is between 6.5 to 7.

Once you are sure that the pH level of your soil is perfect for okra plants, proceed to the next step.

4. Nutrients

It is essential that you fill up your soil with essential nutrients, as plants need nutrients as much as humans do.

Keeping that thought in mind, pack your soil with nutrients that will help boost the okra plants' growth.

This can be achieved by using bagged organic fertilizer or compost.

Regardless of which one you choose, you must ensure that the nutrients have reached at least 4 inches when working with 12 inches of deep soil.

Once you are done, grab the seeds your vegetable seeds supplier has sent and head over to the patch.

5. Sow

Now it is time to sow the seeds; make sure they are 4 inches apart from each other and 1/2 inch deep.

You will be required to dig holes that can hold the root balls, and gently pat the soil on top.

Now all you have to do is take care of your okara plants for a few weeks before they start offering okra.

These easy-to-follow steps can help you get the perfect results. Keep in mind that it’s highly recommended to use a reliable and trustworthy seed producer and merchant as the final results depend heavily on the quality of the seeds.

Moreover, knowing that you’re using quality seeds will help keep your mind at ease, and boost your confidence. So order your seeds online, and get started today.
