Are you ready?

Let’s begin!

Before we start, let us remind you that the easiest way to buy vegetable seeds in Malaysia is online. When you shop online, you will find a wide selection of vegetable seeds to choose from plus the seed is always fresh.

Here are the best vegetable seeds to grow during the hot season.

1. Shallots

One of the easiest vegetable seeds to grow in Malaysia is shallots. You can plant them on sets, just separate the bulbs and plant them individually at the beginning of the hot season for a late summer harvest.

Shallots should be planted in full sun, and in nutrient-rich soil that drains well. The best time to harvest shallots is once the top starts to fail and the bulbs have divided into multiple bulblets.

2. Basil

Basil is the most perfect herb as it can be added to Thai soups, Caprese salads, or pizza. In hot weather, it is extremely generous.

Buy your basil seeds online and choose a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil or grow plants in containers. Don’t water your basil seeds at night as basil hates having wet roots, try to do it in the early morning.

To keep your plants bushy and productive, just pinch the tips of branches regularly and remove any flowers that start to develop.

3. Okra

Okra is one of the easiest vegetable seeds to grow in Malaysia as it loves hot weather. Keep in mind that it has very delicate roots so be careful when transplanting from seeds that were started indoors.

After you buy your vegetable seeds online, make sure to read the directions on the package and plant them in full sun in rich soil, and don’t forget to harvest regularly. When they have grown 3 to 4 inches, pick okra pods. If you let pods over-mature the plant will stop producing.

4. Peppers

The hot season is a great time to grow different types of peppers for use in sauces and salsas. Peppers, both mild and hot, are one of those heat-loving crops that will produce a high yield with little effort and can withstand Malaysia's hot weather.

They grow well in raised beds containers and in-ground gardens. Plant them 45 to 60 centimeters apart in a sunny, well-drained spot. Remember, pepper plants need at least six to eight hours of sunlight per day.

5. Tomatoes

No vegetable garden is complete without tomatoes. Tomatoes go hand-in-hand with the hot season.

Keep in mind that tomatoes normally need a long growing season with plenty of heat and full sun. They need at least six to eight hours of sunlight per day. Begin planting tomatoes as soon as the hot season starts.

6. Edamame

Edamame is another vegetable seed that grows in hot and humid environments.

The growing season lasts several months so it is a good idea to plant them as soon as the hot season begins. This vegetable seed can be harvested young for use in snacks and recipes or grown to full-fledged for tofu and other soy products.

Soybeans do not germinate when the soil is too cold. These vegetable seeds germinate when the temperature remains in a range of 15 to 32° Celsius.

7. Leafy Lettuce

Leafy Lettuce is the perfect vegetable seed to grow in Malaysia’s tropical weather. This type of lettuce is well known for its heat tolerance. It can be used just like any other type of lettuce. The only difference is that it is small in size.

Make sure to choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil but keep the soil moist.

8. Cucumbers

During the hot season, these vegetable seeds will grow quickly and ripen in about six weeks. Cucumbers love the sun and water.

Most varieties will grow in any amount of space, thanks to the plant’s ability to climb.

Remember, the growth of these vegetable seeds is fast, and the crop yield is abundant if you care for them properly. For more information, get in touch with us.
